Brazil, you say? They know how to play football over there, don't they? But it's a long way for one so middle aged as I to travel.

So instead, I shall slouch into my leather armchair and view the tournament from this side of the Atlantic. I shall try and watch every game and will definitely make wildly inaccurate predictions too.

I do solemnly vow to give you a real sense of what it's like to not be at the World Cup. This is the blog where all the colour and atmosphere and passion of watching the world's greatest sporting tournament on a wall mounted widescreen really comes to life.

World Cup Semi-Final: Argentina 0-0 Holland (Argentina win 4-2 on pens)

Not a thriller nor a goal fest. A typical tight semi where each team neutralised the other's most dangerous threats. Messi got one touch in the Dutch area all game. Robben made just one pass in the first half. It didn't make for much of a spectacle, and the spectre of penalties hung over this until they were duly reached with neither net being ruffled.

There was no rush of Dutch hands in the air when Van Gaal asked who wanted to take the first. It was left to Vlaar and he missed to the right, and from then on, the Argentines always had a foot in the final.  Despite not being impressive at all, they've made it and face the rampant Germans.  It's Europe vs South America. Who will triumph will be decided on Sunday.
